Post 10: English Language Challenges
We are reaching the end of a very
long semester and we are also finishing with English 4, the last level that the
university demands of us as journalism students, and the experience has been
very positive.
First of all, when I started this
year with the English course, I was very scared, I had not studied the language
for two years. But I quickly remembered many things that I had forgotten, and I
have managed to learn many new things.
I will be honest, I thought that
the English course at this university would be of a low level. But that
prejudice ended when I met the teachers and learned with the dynamics of the
classes.
Also,
my experience writing in blogs has been very good. Blogs have been an excellent way to
re-develop my skills. In fact, I think that through blogs I have learned a lot,
especially in terms of grammar and vocabulary. On the other hand, I think the main challenge in the future is to speak more in English. Honestly, I do not like to speak in English, or rather, I get very nervous when I´m doing that. This is something that also happens to me in all subjects, I have always preferred to write. So, I want to venture more to speak in English without shame.
The problem is that outside of class, in the rest of the activities I do, I do not communicate in English, so I must find a way to do it in the future.
In conclusion, taking up the first part of this writing, my experience in English class has been very good and I hope to continue learning more of this language in the future.

Post 9 Changing the Study Programme
Firstly, I
want to say that I am only in the second year of my study programme, so I believe
that I have little experience at the university. Anyway there are some things I
would change from my study programme (journalism).
In my
opinion, there are many subjects I would remove from the study programme, like “interpersonal
communicating” or “functionalism”. I know that they sound important because we
will be communicators, but honestly I feel that those subjects will not help me
for my professional future. As a suggestion, I would include more subjects
related to journalism.
Secondly,
from my point of view, the length of studies is very extensive. We study during
five years and in other countries many journalism students are working in third
or fourth year. The study programme should
be shorter so that we can enter to work promptly.
From the perspective
of infrastructure of the university and our Faculty, I think in some areas it
has improved and in others has worsened. The buildings are comfortable and
moderns, even when I entered the university, I never imagined the faculty had
air conditioning and computer rooms. But the problem, is that there are too
many new buildings, therefore there are few green areas.
As a positive
aspect, the teaching aspects are so good. I´m happy to study here because my teachers
have taught me many things for my future as a journalist.
Despite all
the criticism I made, I fell that I´m in the best university in the country.

Post 8, An Artsist
Therefore,
I want to tell you about Roberto Bolanos, maybe the vast majority knows him. He
was a Chilean writer and poet who wrote great novels such as "The Savage
Detectives" and "Nazi Literature in America".
The first
time I read a book about him was at school thanks to my language teacher who
recommended me to read Roberto Bolaños.
I read the "The Savage Detectives" and I was really fascinated
with their type of writing.
As I said,
I liked his direct style, his good use of words and the impressive stories he
created in his books. Also, in some of his books he has criticized the Chilean
dictatorship, but he was never involved in politics, so his writing was very ingenous.
Finally,
from my point of view, he is the best Chilean novelist and even, I would say
that if I had lived more years, I would have won the Nobel Prize.

Post 7 (21-11) : Current Issues
Well, I´m going to write about football (as
almost always in my blogs). Really I enjoy with football and I want to be a
sports journalist, but not only talk about sports themselves, but about the social
aspects that exist in the sports, especially in football.
For those who don´t know, this weekend the
finale of the Copa Libertadores between Boca Juniors y River Plate was
suspended. The problem was that River fans threw stones and injured Boca
players, even some players had cuts.
With respect to this problem, I want to say emphatically
“no more violence”, no more violence in the stadiums and in the world. What happens
with the society? Is not possible for a football match people try to kill the
rival team. It sounds crazy!!
Many people have blamed the media because they
said that this match was “the world final”, so this name caused that fans were
violent. But I think this violence isn´t problem of the media or a problem of
the politicians or the police. The problem is our society.
The system in which we are living has fallen in
many violent acts. In my opinion facts like the murder of the police to the
Mapuche Camilo Catrillanca is just one of the examples of this extreme violence
that shows us that this is not just a football issue.
I just expect that the match is played in peace and that no more violence is generated.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
It is
difficult to thing about a postgraduate because I am just in my second year of
my career: journalism. But if I had to choose a postgraduate, it would be
sports Communicator in football.
I feel that
this postgraduate was made for me. I like very much sports and football, and I
want to be a sports journalist, but the problem was that in Chile didn´t exist
that mention until I found this surprise course that teaches INAF (national
football institute).
The
postgraduate contains different subjects about communication and specially football
and his history. But also there are courses about oral and writing expression and
audiovisual communication.
However,
there two problems in this postgraduate. First, it is very expensive, so I
would have to save much money. The second problem is that it is full-time,
therefore my time to work would be limited.
Anyway, I
know that if I try hard I can study this postgraduate, although it´s just an
option. Still my future is not decided.
My future job
Really, I
had never thought about my future job, I only care about my classes and studies
at the university.
Therefore
it is difficult to think about a future job but considering that I study
journalism and I like the career very much I would like to work in a radio,
especially in ADN Radio or in English DNA radio.
I would
like to work there because I already worked a week there. In effect, when I was
in my last year of high school. In my school they asked me to get a job for a
week, well it was really a work practice.
During that
week I learnt to edit audios, to write radio scripts and I also went to report
with a journalist. I was really fascinated and from that experience I decided
to study journalism.
Because I
already have the experience, I believe that I would not have problems to work
there, besides in the radio subject at the university I learnt much more about radio.
Finally I
know that on the radio don´t pay much money and I don´t expect to become a rich
person in that job, but I would be a very happy person and that is the most
important thing in life.
